UPDATED: DC Fans Want to Shut Down Rotten Tomatoes
Here's something you've probably noticed about DC's recent films: They have terrible reviews. Man of Steel has a rotten score of 55 percent on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Batman v Superman, one of the year's worst films, sports a lowly 27 percent rating. And the much-hyped savior of the DCEU, Suicide Squad, is so far failing to impress with a score of just 35 percent after 57 reviews. So to combat this, fans have DC have put together a petition. Not to submit to Warner Bros. to demand higher quality films, but to shut down Rotten Tomatoes.

Yes, clearly the problem with the films of the DCEU isn't a lack of quality, but a personal vendetta against their films by nearly every respected movie critic out there today and the site that aggregates their reviews for an accurate reflection of how movies are received. The petition is on change.org, and as of this writing has 1,101 of a required 1,500. The petition states:

Opening quote
"We need this site to be shut down because It's Critics always give The DC Extended Universe movies unjust Bad Reviews, Like 1- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016 2- Suicide Squad 2016 and that Affects people's opinion even if it's a really great movies."

Oof. I haven't seen Suicide Squad, so I can't speak to that, but Man of Steel and Batman v Superman are not good movies. BvS is virtually unwatchable. If the fans signing this petition really cared about the future of DC movies succeeding, they should demand higher quality films - not look to silent the critics of those who (rightly, imo) dislike the films of the Snyderverse. There seems to be a belief that critics want DC films to fail for some reason, when there is no evidence of that. Nolan's Batman movies have outstanding RT ratings, as do several other DC films. And while it's true that no movie of the MCU has ever received a rotten rating on the site, the reason isn't a grand conspiracy. So far, Disney and Marvel have just proven they're much better at making movies than DC and Warner Bros., and shutting down a website that gathers critics reviews (and doesn't post its own, btw) isn't going to change that. Also, Rotten Tomatoes is owned by Fandango - a site whose entire business revolves around selling movie tickets. Why would Fandango conspire against itself by purposely sabotaging one of the biggest franchises in movies? They wouldn't.

So, sorry DC fans looking to shut down Rotten Tomatoes, but your anger is misdirected. Maybe you should instead start a petition calling on Disney to buy DC - At this point that's probably your best hope for good movies, and hence good reviews.

UPDATE - 08/04/16 10:43 am

Abdullah Coldwater, who started the petition, has now withdrawn it after more than 17,000 signatures and plenty of mixed press, claiming that he never meant for it to be taken all that seriously.

Opening quote
"In fact i started this petition to gather DC fans to express our anger just for fun. I didn't mean it to be taken that serious [sic]," Coldwater wrote. "After thinking, I found this petition is pointless. And the only thing that it does is spreading a speech of hate and online fighting among the supporters and objectors . The movies is [sic] something to enjoy. And the hate and fight is the opposite of enjoying."
