Disney is Making Changes to the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Crew for Post-Production
Tony Gilroy, an uncredited writer on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has been given a leading role in the movie's post-production processes. Gilroy, who also headed up those reshoots that everyone got in such a tizz about earlier this year, will now work with Director Gareth Edwards to finalize the the version of the movie we're all so desperate to see on December 16th.

According to THR's sources, Gilroy's new jurisdiction will see him supervising Gareth Edwards' work in the edit room. Such a revelation might trigger fears over the status of the movie, but the report is quick to point out that this is not a reduction of Gareth Edwards powers. The director is still taking a leading role on finalizing this movie and has actually worked closely with Gilroy in the past, namely on the Godzilla movie that played a key role in securing the British director the Rogue One job.

Opening quote
"There are not two separate editing rooms; they are all in there with their ideas," says one  of THR's sources. "Tony's a strong force, but they're all working together."
Closing quote

There's a tendency with big franchises for changes to be interpreted as negative, but this particular move makes sense. After Gilroy was brought on to hone and refine the movie's ending during five weeks of reshoots, it's logical for him to see the work through, all the way into the edit room. Add to this the fact that Gilroy has a pretty stellar resume, with work on the Bourne franchise, Nightcrawler and most recently, Matt Damon's The Great Wall, and we should probably be seeing this as a positive move.

The most important thing from my point of view is that Gareth Edwards is able to stamp his unique, ground-floor approach on this movie. Judging by the sizzle reel and both trailers, one of which is yet to be released, there doesn't appear to be any doubt about that.
