Netflix Boss on Stranger Things Season Two: "We Would Be Dumb Not To"
Stranger Things has taken the world by storm since it came out on Netflix a few weeks ago, and has become the nerdy hit of the summer. So it's easy to forget that a second season hasn't been confirmed, but by all accounts, we don't have too much to worry about. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Netflix boss Reed Hastings stopped short of saying that it had actually been greenlit, but he did state the obvious: "we would be dumb not to."

Even though it hasn't been confirmed, a second season seems like a foregone conclusion. The Duffer Brothers have gone into detail about their plans for a potential second season, and Hastings acknowledges that despite Netflix's lack of traditional ratings, it's safe to say the first season has been a hit:

Opening quote
"Because we don't have advertising we are under a whole different model to not compare all the shows and rank other shows, because it kind of doesn't matter what everybody loves the most it, matters what you or I love most.

"You can get approximations ... if you look on IMDB the most popular TV show right now it's Stranger Things, so that's a reasonable proxy. It's not that there's no data, just that we don't give out our data."
Closing quote

Hastings went on to say that Stranger Things fits Netflix's brand, since they're looking to get into dark, gritty, Breaking Bad-esque material:

Opening quote
"Breaking Bad was the good guy gone dark to support his family ... You see Winona Ryder going crazy looking for her kid, it's something especially with the 80s side of it hasn't been seen before."
Closing quote
