MacGyver Is a Geeky 007 in New Trailer for James Wan's Reboot
The MacGyver reboot has been through some ups and downs, but a new trailer for James Wan's version of the pilot seems to have struck a distinctive tone: a nerdier version of James Bond.

MacGyver is primarily known as a geeky icon, using science, technology and ingenuity to get himself out of scrapes. In this version, he's billed as a "charismatic action hero," complete with a tux-and-bow-tie, slicked-back hair, and a generic spy-show heist that involves slowly lifting something mysterious out of a mysterious case. It looks like fun, if a little silly.

For better and for worse, the show seems to have found its niche, after taking some hard left turns in the production process. James Wan was originally on board to direct a MacGyver movie, but then when the concept was changed to a television show, Wan left the project and David Von Ancken was brought on to helm the pilot. Then, when CBS wanted a different version of the pilot, they brought Wan back and axed the entire cast except for Lucas Till (MacGyver) and trusty sidekick George Eads. For the new pilot, Justin Hires and Tristin Mays co-star as MacGyver's roommate and an "unpredictable" hacker, respectively.

CBS' Macgyver premieres on CBS on September 23 at 8pm on CBS.
