Here's the First Trailer from the Max Steel Movie, Which Is Apparently Still a Thing
< >
Who knew the Max Steel movie was even still happening? After nearly a century in development, the adaptation of the Mattel action figure is coming out this fall, and we finally have the first trailer from Japan:

So this looks pretty terrible, right? Trailers have not been terribly reliable indicators of quality recently—between Suicide Squad, Star Trek Beyond, Ghostbusters, and more—but this poorly-edited and chaotic trailer isn't doing the already-beleaguered film any favors. Some of the design looks decent, but you can't even discern the plot of the movie—or whether it has one.

Mattel has had this movie in development for many years, and at one point had Taylor Lautner attached to star. Now, Ben Winchell stars as the titular Max, a boy who becomes a cyborg after fusing with the alien Steel. It was scheduled to come out this year, but when we didn't hear anything about it, we thought it was dead in the water. But since it's still happening, it's slated to come out on October 21.

Opening quote
Based on a toy and animated series, the film chronicles the adventures of 16-year old Max McGrath (Winchell) and alien companion Steel, who must harness and combine their tremendous new powers to evolve into the turbo-charged superhero Max Steel. As these two unlikely friends struggle to accept their oddly connected fates, they begin to uncover unimaginable secrets, working together to find the truth, and fighting the mysterious forces threatening their world.
