Terminally Ill Star Wars Fan Gets His Wish to See Rogue One Early
A terminally ill Star Wars fan has been granted his wish of seeing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story early, after a devoted social media campaign carried out by the people caring for him was able to capture the attention of none other than Mark Hamill.

Hanvey, who was admitted to St. Mary's Hospice in Hereford, UK, was only given six months to live back in April of this year. This would mean that Hanvey, a life-long Star Wars fan, would likely be unable to witness Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which isn't released until December. Hanvey had expressed to his family and friends that his last wish would be to see the Star Wars spin-off early, prompting Hanvey's healthcare assistant Amy Duncan and Hanvey's wife Andrea to launch a determined campaign to get this message to the Disney and LucasFilm.

The campaign gained a great deal of traction, with people across the world sharing the message of #RogueOneWish. The message was even spread across the Rio Olympics, by Olympic Cycling chief Paul Davis.

However, while the campaign was gaining prominence there still hadn't been any word from the studio on whether or not Hanvey's was achievable. The breakthrough came when Mark Hamill retweeted an article about Hanvey's wish from Metro.

This past weekend Gareth Edwards and a team from LucasFilm granted Hanvey is Rogue One Wish, giving him a special screening of the movie a whole four months before it's released in theaters.

Sadly Hanvey passed away not long after seeing the film, but his family and friends wanted to thank everybody who had helped spread the message about his wish.

It's a testament to the amazing people at St. Mary's hospice that this campaign gathered so much steam so quickly, but it also shows that, contrary to popular belief, the world (and the Internet) is actually full of pretty great people.
