How The Flash's Season 3 Speedster Villain Will Be Different from All the Other Ones
In season one of The Flash, Barry went up against another speedster, Reverse-Flash. Then, in season two, Barry went up against Zoom, and it started to get a little repetitive. Then, we found out that Barry (and/or Wally West) would go up against yet another speedster villain, and we all started to wonder if The Flash had any more tricks up its sleeve.

But as it turns out, we might be able to rest easy. The above black-clad speedster is not Savitar, but another comics villain called The Rival, played by Todd Lasance, who won't be one of the Big Bads of the season. Savitar, on the other hand, is technically a speedster in the comics, but judging from the first look at him in the teaser, he'll be different than the other speedsters Barry has encountered.
According to Flash co-showrunner Todd Helbing, Savitar is different because he focuses on "psychological warfare" rather than a physical contest:
Savitar is also different from any other main villains we've seen, because he works in a team. Savitar will work in conjunction with the other Big Bad, Doctor Alchemy, in a strategy that Helbing refers to as "flanking."
Helbing has also stated that Savitar will have divinity-like qualities, and some kind of cult following:
The Flash returns for season three on October 4 at 8pm on The CW.
