Watch the First Trailer for Greg Berlanti's Archie Comics Adaptation, "Riverdale"
The first trailer for the Archie Comics live-action adaptation Riverdale is finally here, and it makes the show look even soapier than it actually is:

Don't get me wrong: Riverdale is actually pretty soapy. Between the Archie/Betty/Veronica love triangle, an affair with a teacher, a campy murder mystery, and (I kid you not) a "jock wants to do something artsy in spite of blowhard father" subplot, it's basically a mixture of Dawson's Creek (another Greg Berlanti show) and Twin Peaks. But unlike the trailer, the pilot displayed an energy and a cheeky sense of humor, so don't write off the show just yet. (Read our spoiler-free SDCC review here.)

Riverdale is executive produced by Flash/Arrow/Supergirl/Legends of Tomorrow boss Greg Berlanti, who introduced the trailer at the CW upfronts with the simple statement: "Riverdale may look like an ideal small town, but underneath, it has a dark side." The show stars newcomers K.J. Apa and Lili Reinhart as Archie and Betty, respectively, standout Camila Mendes as Veronica, and Cole Sprouse as an emo hacker version of Jughead. 90210's Luke Perry, Twin Peaks' Madchen Amick, and 24's Marisol Nichols also appear in supporting roles.

Riverdale is set to premiere on The CW in early 2017.
