Barb Lives! Shannon Purser Joins the Cast of Archie Comics Adaptation "Riverdale"
Poor Barb got a pretty rough deal on the first season of Stranger Things (although she gets to be the Boba Fett of the franchise as a consolation prize), but now Shannon Purser is getting resurrected in the geek world. The fan favorite actress will appear on Riverdale, Greg Berlanti's "gritty" Archie Comics adaptation, in a recurring role.

According to a new report from EW, Purser will play Archie comics character Ethel Muggs (which already sounds like a perfect character name for the lovable actress). In the comics, she had a huge crush on Jughead, who will be played by Cole Sprouse in the television show, but now she will have a "very different" love interest. She will also befriend Betty and Veronica (could one of them be her love interest?) as they all team up to exact revenge on the bully Reggie Mantle. She's only a recurring character for now, but there's a chance she'll have a more significant role, since EW claims she is joining the show for "at least three episodes."

Possible spoilers ahead! (Click to reveal)

Sadly, there's no chance that a more significant or regular role would conflict with any Stranger Things duties. Unexpected breakout Barb was last seen looking very dead in the Upside Down, and while sci-fi tropes allowed fans to maintain some hope she would return, the Duffer brothers put a kibosh on those dreams.

Riverdale is expected to premiere on The CW in early 2017. The first trailer was released yesterday, while the pilot first screened at SDCC (read our spoiler-free review here).
