First Image of Gabriel Luna as Marvel's New Ghost Rider Hits the Web
A lot of big name comic characters are making their MCU debuts this year, and Ghost Rider certainly isn't the least of them. While the Nic Cage film series fell flat after the sequel, now that the rights are back with Marvel Studios, the character is thankfully going to get another chance at a live action adaptation. Only this time, it will be with the company that created him.

Set to appear on the upcoming season of Agents of SHIELD, this particular iteration of Ghost Rider will be quite different from Cage's Johnny Blaze. Gabriel Luna, who has been cast in the role, is Robbie Reyes - Marvel's newest Ghost Rider in the comics, making his first on-page appearance back in 2014. Now, EW has shared their exclusive first look at Luna in costume, and though the picture is lacking the Rider's fiery glory, he still looks pretty intimidating.

Though there's still a lot of mystery concerning how the character will be adapted for the small screen (for instance, will he borrow from Blaze's mythos or stick to his own from the comics, etc.), it's safe to say that the Reyes of the comics is an entirely different character altogether from Blaze. He rides a flaming car instead of a motorcycle, and the thing that possess him is not a demon, but rather the soul of a serial killer. There's other key differences as well, but it seems like Marvel shouldn't have any problems with helping fans to differentiate between Cage's version of the character and their own.

There's still the question of whether or not Reyes' predecessors, Johnny Blaze and Daniel Ketch, will ever appear in the MCU. It's easy to see why they would believe one Ghost Rider at a time is enough, but The Flash is currently pulling off two different Flashes (Barry Allen and Jay Garrick), so it's not like it still couldn't still be done and be done well. Then again, with a franchise as massive and lasting as the MCU, it may be inevitable for another Ghost Rider to eventually step in and take Reyes' place, whether they have another spirit of vengeance working concurrently in-universe or not.

Either way, Robbie Reyes will be adapted for live action TV for the very first time this Fall, and that's certainly something for Marvel fans to get excited about. Yet another fan-favorite hero is going to be brought to life thanks to the movie magic of the MCU.

Agents of SHIELD returns for its fourth season on Tuesday, September 20th, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
