New Ready Player One Set Photos Are Chock-Full of 80s References
Ready Player One is one of the most exciting upcoming sci-fi projects in the next couple of years, and set photos and video have just started trickling out. Now, we have more photos of the set dressings, and they are basically 80s nostalgia incarnate:
The book is known for being very generous with its 70s and 80s references, and the movie looks to be no different. The Easter eggs that will be in the background of Ready Player One include nods to Thundercats, Gremlins, and, of course, Jaws—the latter two made by Steven Spielberg himself. (It seems a little strange to include "nostalgic" references to your own work, but we suppose he's earned it):
The photos also gave us another look at the dystopian world of Ready Player One, which is grimy and depressing enough to inspire citizens to escape reality and live in OASIS:
And last but not least, a video has been released that shows Spielberg speaking with co-star Olivia Cooke (Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl), who plays Art3mis, a famous gunter and blogger who is on the hunt for the egg.
Ready Player One is slated to hit theaters on March 30, 2018.
