Keanu Reeves' Sci-Fi Thriller "Replicas" Exists, and Is Already Shooting
< >
Remember that indie sci-fi movie Keanu Reeves was going to star in? Neither did we, but apparently Replicas is still happening, and has flown under the radar so much that it is already shooting.

Back in 2014, Reeves signed on to star as Will Foster, described as a "daring synthetic biologist," in Replicas, which we can only assume is a clone movie. Here's the official synopsis:
Opening quote
"After a car accident kills his family, a daring neuroscientist will stop at nothing to bring them back, even if it means pitting himself against a government-controlled laboratory, a police task force and the physical laws of science."
Closing quote

After Reeves' casting was announced, we didn't hear anything from Replicas again. Since that was two years ago, we figured that it was in development hell, but apparently it's full steam ahead. It will be directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff, who wrote the Dennis Quaid/Jake Gyllenhaal post-apocalyptic blockbuster, The Day After Tomorrow, and is currently filming in Puerto Rico. Star Trek: Into Darkness casualty actress Alice Eve will co-star as his deceased wife, Mona.

The premise sounds like it could be incredibly interesting or incredibly cheesy, but for now, it's promising to see that Reeves is getting back into sci-fi. He's experienced a slight career resurgence with John Wick, and has gotten great reviews playing creeps in indies like The Gift and The Neon Demon, so maybe a return to geek culture is exactly what he needs.

Replicas started filming on August 10. It's scheduled to be released sometime in 2017.
