James Wan's Robotech Live-Action Movie Will Start Production "Soon"
A live-action Robotech movie has been in the works for years, but after it seemed to be moving forward with the hiring of James Wan, it's been fairly quiet for a year or so. Now, the producers have announced that the film is awaiting the final draft of the script, and that production will start sometime very soon.

The announcement came at Long Beach Comic Con, where Robotech vice president Billy Davis (also a voice actor who has played both Batman and the Joker) was on hand to discuss the franchise and present a video message from the producers, Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari, who previously co-produced Zack Snyder's 300. They said they've "never been more driven towards anything than making a great version of Robotech," and that they should have a final version of the script in the near future.

Opening quote
"We are really working every day to finish the new draft on Robotech," said Canton. "It's our priority."

They also sung James Wan's praises, calling him the perfect choice for director and claiming that "everything Robotech, he knows." They said that they shared his vision for the film, which is to honor the original franchise as much as possible while still adding a new spin on it.

Opening quote
"We are almost there," said Nunnari. "With this franchise, we're going to reveal a brand-new version."

No one would pinpoint an actual date, likely because Wan's schedule is so insane right now. In addition to Robotech, the Saw and Furious 7 director also has Aquaman on his plate, not to mention his commitments to popular horror franchises The Conjuring and Insidious. But still, at least we know the movie is still moving forward, and won't be languishing in development hell anytime soon.
