Donnie Darko to Be Restored and Re-Released in 4K
Donnie Darko is one of the best cult sci-fi movies of all time, and now we're going to get a modernized, optimized version. Director Richard Kelly just announced on his Twitter that he's working with Arrow films to create a 4k version of the beloved film.

Donnie Darko was a highly regarded but little-watched movie in 2001, which garnered a passionate fanbase and catapulted Jake Gyllenhaal to stardom. It's a weird and wonderful movie, involving time travel, tangent universes, demonic bunnies, smurf penises, and, of course, cellar doors. It also conformed with many real-life philosophical and scientific concepts about time travel, the background of which was elucidated in the Director's Cut.

According to Kelly, the re-release will come out right around the holidays, and it would make a perfect gift for any sci-fi fan. While the movie has developed a cult following over time, the quality of the actual film wouldn't have aged as well, so it's about time for an upgrade.

And besides, who wouldn't want to see Frank's terrifying bunny suit in ultra-high resolution?
