Watch: Krypton Destroyed In New 'Man of Steel Trailer'
< >

Well that's it. 'Man of Steel' is officially the most anticipated Sci-Fi movie of the year over here at Roswell Sightings.

The new trailer released by Warner Bros. continues the haunting, emotional tone taken by previous trailers, but this time throws in some serious action shots.

Not wasting any time, the trailer opens with Russell Crowe's character, Jor-El, witnessing what we would assume is the destruction of the planet Krypton. Advanced space craft and even a mysterious alien beast are all witnessed before we see Jor-El's son, Kal-El, being shipped off to Earth. This action will be a huge relief to many fans who have been starved of a look at the more 'Hollywood' moments of the film. But that is testament to the product Warner Bros. seem to have on their hands, much like when we got our first glimpse of Christian Bale's Batman.

One point that the trailers really do ram home, is the purpose for which Kal-El is sent to Earth. This was not simply to save him, but to send him to a planet where he can make a difference. This weight of expectation clearly troubles the young Clark Kent, who struggles to cope with the knowledge that he is so unlike everyone around him. He ventures on his pilgrimage (a fishing trip?) to find himself and returns in full regalia, scoring an interview with Lois Lane.

Perhaps the most exciting part of this trailer though, is not the expanded look at the making of the man, but the first decent clips of Michael Shannon's General Zod. Zod, who also hails from Krypton has always been portrayed as a bit of a bad-ass, but the Shannon, in the beefed up armor, seems to be adding a healthy slice of madness into the mix.

So what we have is an emotional, almost human Superman having to battle through some very Earthly issues only to be faced with an absolute lunatic from his home planet. The result, see 2:48 on the trailer and join us in getting very, very excited.
