Joss Whedon Teams Up with Some Avengers to Defeat Donald Trump
Whedon famously left Twitter after Avengers: Age of Ultron came out, but his account popped up again to deliver a very special PSA:
Hey! Did I miss anything? Lol jk the world is on fire here's a thing I made https://t.co/g1SE45Rkrv— Joss Whedon (@joss) September 21, 2016
Whedon made the video for the organization Save the Day, which bills itself as a "short-form production company dedicated to the idea that voting is a necessary and heroic act."
The above video gathers Avengers like Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, and Mark Ruffalo, as well as other Whedonverse favorites like Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Clark Gregg, Nathan Fillion, Tom Lenk, and Ashley Johnson, to tell everyone to vote on November 8th. There is also just a "shit-ton" of famous people, including Julianne Moore, James Franco, Keegan-Michael Key, and Jesse Williams.
They never name either candidate in the video, but it's pretty clearly anti-Trump. Martin Sheen says, "We cannot pretend both sides are equally unfavorable," while Cheadle warns against voting for "a racist, abusive coward who could permanently damage the fabric of our society." Meanwhile, Leslie Odom Jr. asks, "Do we want to give nuclear weapons to a man whose signature move is firing things?" But Whedon himself was the most explicit about the video's intent:
As they say in the video, voting against someone like Trump should be its own reward, but there's also a chance that we'll get to see Mark Ruffalo naked, apparently. That's probably a joke, but still, it's a win on so many levels.
