A Captain Planet Movie Is Coming, So You'd Better Start Recycling
Exciting news for all you Planeteers out there: A Captain Planet movie is on the way. Proving once again that Hollywood is always willing to reuse and recycle old ideas (get it?), the '90s cartoon favorite will soon be heading to the big screen.

Paramount and Leonardo DiCaprio's production studio, Appian Way, are close to a deal on the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. For those who are having trouble remembering the original, Captain Planet and the Planeteers aired from 1990 to 1992 and served to educate a generation on environmental protection. It focused on five teenagers from around the globe, each of whom possessed a magic ring with an elemental power: Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and, uh, Heart. When their powers combined, they formed Captain Planet, a super hero who takes out rootin, tootin', pollutin' bad guys.

It's not surprising that DiCaprio would spearhead the project, given that he is a committed environmentalist, but what is surprising is that the film sounds like it's going to be kind of a meta take on the material. The source claims the story will "take place years after the adventures of the show, with the Captain now a washed-up has-been who needs the kids more than they need him."

As long as he still has that sweet green mullet, we're in.
