George Lucas Not Involved in Indiana Jones 5 Story
Well here's some good news (or some bad news depending on how you feel about George Lucas): George Lucas apparently has nothing to do with the next Indiana Jones movie.

This is according to the film's writer, David Koepp, who told Collider this when asked if Lucas was involved in the story's development:
Opening quote
""He's not, to my knowledge. I've had no contact with him."
Closing quote

This is certainly peculiar. As most people are aware, Lucas created the character, and has been heavily involved with the previous four Indy films. When Disney, who acquired the rights to the franchise when they purchased Lucasfilm, announced the fifth movie, Lucas was not mentioned. However, director Steven Spielberg later said that his old friend would serve as an executive producer on the movie. So which is it?

Lucas may very well be an executive producer, but that doesn't mean he's actually involved. Considering his "divorce" from Lucasfilm and his reported displeasure with Disney over their handling of Star Wars, it's not that surprising that he would abstain from contributing to the new Indy movie. For fans of Lucas who believe he's been screwed over by movie studios, this is certainly a blow. But for his detractors, who point to The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the Star Wars prequels as proof that he's lost his touch, they'll likely view this as great news for the franchise.

In any case, Lucas not being involved in the story doesn't mean it will be a surefire hit. Spielberg did direct The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, after all, and Koepp wrote it, so they're just as responsible as anyone. Let's just hope they right their wrongs with Indy 5 - and leave aliens and refrigerators out of it this time.
