Donnie Darko Returns to UK Theaters for Its 15th Anniversary
Donnie Darko took hold of the post-adolescent consciousness back in 2001, back when Jake Gyllenhaal was an unknown young actor and the scariest bunny in fiction was Bunnicula. Now, on its fifteenth anniversary, the cult classic is coming back to theaters for a limited run in UK theaters.
Arrow Films just announced (via Metro.co.uk) that they will be releasing the restored, 4K version in theaters in December, when it will also be released on Blu-ray (just in time for the holidays!). The film will come out at the BFi on December 16, and then will be released nationwide on December 23. And if that isn't enough, the Director's Cut will be available for screenings in addition to the theatrical version.
This is a great holiday present to us all (although we might not want to watch a movie that contains a monologue about smurf penises with our families on Christmas Day). It's unclear how long the film will run, but considering that the movie was filmed in 28 days and Frank predicted the world would end in 28 days, exactly four weeks would be appropriate.
