New Rogue One Footage Shows Epic Space Battles Over a New Planet
Oohhh boy, new trailers and TV spots for Rogue One are dropping left and right! We got the second international trailer yesterday with all kinds of new reveals and footage, and today we got a new TV spot and international trailer with some new scenes of X-Wings and TIE Fighters clashing in huge space battles over the planet Scariff, a new addition to the Star Wars planetary canon (along with whatever planet the Death Star just blew up during the weapons test). We also get to see a funny deadpan moment between Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus, where Chirrut's super-awesome martial-arts fight with stormtroopers is cut short by a volley of laser fire that flies a little too close to his head. Either way, for fans looking for assurances that the new Rogue One will have more than a perfunctory little space battle, rest easy: we're going to see some real star warfare.

Here's the new international trailer!

We saw Director Krennic shouting about the immeasurable 'powah' of the Death Star in the earlier trailer, but this new trailer is a testament to how great an actor (and villain) Ben Mendelsohn really is: standing silently across from Jyn Erso's father in the opening scenes, he doesn't need to say a word to convey what his expression already reveals: absolute contempt and casual, bored arrogance. Krennic isn't like other Imperial villains—he's a different brand of power-hungry, and it makes his character fascinating to watch, even in short clips like these.

And here's the new TV spot:

The highlight of this short clip is probably the swarm of TIE Fighters rising out of their space station, which looks like it's going to be the main target of attack in the longer international trailer's space battle between Rebels and Imperials. It's interesting to note that the station is ring-shaped, like the Confederacy ships in the prequels. It's in this TV spot that we hear a new slogan repeated: "Make ten men feel like a hundred." It's a great summary of how desperate the Rebellion is, and the unlikely odds the Rogue One team is up against.
