New Han Solo Actor Responds to Lando Casting, Talks Younger Chewbacca
It's interesting to note that actor Alden Ehrenreich may possibly be more well known for a movie that has yet to be made than he is for any other film in his repertoire. While that's certainly an oddity, it's not at all surprising considering the immense popularity of a franchise like Star Wars and the public's love for cinema's most glorified space rogue, Han Solo. The actor was cast for the role of a young Han Solo in the upcoming 2018 anthology film that will center on the character, and recently talked with Variety about the part and the recent casting announcement for the young Lando Calrissian, who will be played by Donald Glover.

Opening quote
I'm allowed to say that I'm really excited about Donald Glover's casting. … I think he's going to be great in the role because he's such a talented and interesting guy. And I can say that Chewbacca's in the film, although I know that's not a huge spoiler.

Glover is no stranger to sci-fi, having played in The Martian and voice acted the part of Miles Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. He's also got a part in Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, and (while not sci-fi) he created, wrote, directed, and produced Atlanta, which is currently airing on FX. He's very popular with fans, and public reception of the Lando casting announcement has been extremely favorable — so Ehrenreich's sentiments about it have definitely been echoed.

Ehrenreich also commented on Chewbacca's role in the film, and while the story will hopefully expand the Wookie's role in the Star Wars universe, he's not expected to physically be much different from his other appearances (how could he be, as he appears virtually the same in Episode III as he does in Episode IV?).

Opening quote
He's as much younger as I am in the film. So, I think he's like 190 - or something - years old. I don't think there's a huge growth spurt for him from 190 to 210, so he's probably about the same height.
Closing quote

While there's not much to know yet about the new Han Solo project, it is exciting to see that the new Han evidently likes the new Lando, and that Chewbacca will clearly be a welcome, familiar part of the story. With Rogue One now just a month away, Star Wars hype is at a fever pitch. Hopefully Disney and Lucasfilm keep up the good work, and continue delivering quality entries to the Star Wars universe.

The Han Solo standalone anthology film is slated for a release on May 25, 2018.
