Doctor Strange's Trip Through the Multiverse Was Originally Seven Minutes Long
Aside from Benedict Cumberbatch's performance, Doctor Strange benefitted most from a distinct visual style the sets it apart from all of the other Marvel movies. One notably trippy scene was the "Magical Mystery Tour," or the sequence in which the Ancient One introduces Strange to the Multiverse. The scene was epic enough as is, but according to director Scott Derrickson, it was originally even more ambitious - clocking in at seven minutes long.

While speaking to Cinema Blend, Derrickson confirmed that he shot a version of that sequence that was much longer:
Opening quote
The Magical Mystery Tour was a bunch of lines of The Ancient One telling Strange that the world that he knows is just a little piece of the world that really exists, so we tried to tie visuals to all these beats… There were tons of other things that didn't make it in the script, with relationships with his past. The Magical Mystery Tour was seven minutes long!

While this sounds like something a lot of fans would want to see, particularly the visuals that tie back into the character's past, Derrickson said that seven minutes of heavy visuals were ultimately "too much" for the movie, and disrupted the flow. The sequence was so visual, in fact, that he couldn't even write it into the script.

Opening quote
You can't describe it with words. And that's been the problem all along, there was no way to write it in the script. It was a visual script that we did. I put together a reel, and then we put it together with concept art, the pre-vis guys put it together with concepts I'd taken and made a story out of it.
Closing quote

This sounds like a ton of work, not to mention money, since they actually shot it. So for those of you who are disappointed that we didn't get to see this scene in full, it's probably safe to say that we'll see it eventually, either in the director's cut or as a special feature/deleted scene on the Blu-ray.

Doctor Strange is now out in theaters. The Blu-ray's release date is still TBA,
