New Details on Benicio del Toro's "Dangerous" Character in Episode VIII Have Been Revealed!
We heard that Benicio del Toro had been offered the part of the villain in Star Wars Episode VIII back in 2015, but since then details have been scarce. We do know that Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) are coming back for the next episode, but beyond that, mostly crickets. Now, however, sources inside the production have told MakingStarWars.net a little more about two new characters, including Del Toro's:

Opening quote
Benicio del Toro has been described as a classic "man in black." As in he wears all black and he's dangerous. His character is clean shaven with hair not unlike Poe Dameron's in length. While The Wrap let us know he was up for the role of the bad guy in the film sometime ago, it doesn't appear the heroes see del Toro as a bad guy, at least not at first.

If you're not sure what a classic "man in black" is, think of the literal Man in Black from Westworld. The archetype is traditionally mysterious and laconic, with unclear motives and deadly skills (depending on the story). They're intimidating, but it's usually unclear whether they're a friend or foe until a pivotal moment. So far, del Toro's character has been labeled a villain, but it still hasn't been confirmed by Lucasfilm. Meanwhile, del Toro himself has been reluctant to confirm it. When asked about the role, he said:

Opening quote
"Ehhh, the thing is, they don't let me talk too much about it. I'm like the villain. But we'll see."

We'll be keeping an eye out for trailers and more leaks about del Toro's character, but in the meantime, new info has also come out about Laura Dern's character. According to MakingStarWars.net

Opening quote
Laura Dern is probably the most bombastic of the new characters from the rumors we've heard. She is very aristocratic and fancy in a way we haven't really seen in Star Wars before. Her look is unique. Someone compared her design to The Hunger Games-meets-Star Wars. Dern wears a "fancy" dress and her hair is like something out of the prequels. The biggest defining detail of this new character played by Laura Dern is that she has pink hair in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Sources are at a loss for words when they tried to describe her hair which is very ornate, almost like something out of the Outlander Club in Attack of the Clones.
Closing quote

In case you don't remember the extremely obscure Outlander Club, it's the nightclub Obi-Wan and Anakin chased Zam Wessell (the purple-clad bounty hunter) into after Zam tried to assassinate Padme. We'll be re-watching that scene again to gauge just how crazy Laura Dern's hair might be.

Star Wars Episode VIII premieres in US theaters on December 15th, 2017.
