Star Wars: Han Solo Prequel Described as a "Heist" and "Western" Movie
Disney has already had a huge amount of success with franchise films that each occupy their own film genre. Marvel films represent the epitome of superhero movies, but they also each have their own distinct identity: Ant-Man is a heist movie, Winter Soldier is a political thriller, etc. Now, it looks like Disney is trying to replicate that model in the Star Wars franchise, as the Han Solo prequel is described as a "heist" and/or a "Western."

While speaking with Variety, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy reiterated that Rogue One feels like a war movie, and the other anthology movies will go in a different direction.

Opening quote
"This moves closer to a heist or Western type feel," said Kennedy. "We've talked about [Frederic] Remington and those primary colors that are used in his paintings defining the look and feel of the film."
Closing quote

So essentially, the saga films will be the equivalent of Avengers team-up movies, while the anthology movies will be like the solo films. (Which makes Han Solo Star Wars' Ant-Man? Logan might be a better analogy, although that's not Disney.) Although it will be strange to see Star Wars films that don't feel 100% like Star Wars films, this might be the key to preventing them from being repetitive. As much as we loved The Force Awakens, we can't just rehash the original trilogy forever.

Star Wars: Han Solo comes out on May 25, 2018.
