Fan Theory: Heimdall Holds The Last Infinity Stone
We've spoken before about the Infinity Stones, especially in relation to Doctor Strange, but no matter how you slice it, one Stone is missing. All the others have been accounted for in the movies: the Space Stone is being held by Odin in the Tesseract, the Reality Stone was given to the Collector by Sif and Volstagg, the Mind Stone used to be in Loki's staff but now resides with Vision, the Time Stone is in Doctor Strange's Eye of Agamotto (you can't tell us it's not!), and the Power Stone is with Nova Corps, safely hidden in their HQ.

But the missing stone, the Soul Stone, hasn't been shown yet. Compared to the other Stones, the Soul Stone is a bit stranger—as the name implies, its powers deal mostly with souls, but according to the comics it's not just a source of power—it wants to consume souls. Sort of like Legion, Professor X's son, the owner of the Soul Stone can speak with all of the souls trapped in the Stone and relive their memories, essentially giving the owner access to a vast well of knowledge. But, like the Ebony Blade, the Stone's lust for souls can become overwhelming and hard to control.

There's no shortage of theories about where the Soul Stone lies, but one theory is that Heimdall holds the Soul Stone, partly due to the fact that his eyes are orange (the same color as the Stone), and that he's been quoted as saying he can see all the souls across all nine Realms...a very specific kind of ability, one that seems unique to the Soul Stone. Still, the Collector has said in the past that it's unwise to keep two Soul Stones in the same place, so it's unlikely that the Asgardians would keep their Space Stone and Soul Stone in Asgard.

The other part of the theory is that nobody knows that Heimdall has the Soul Stone, but this is a bit far-fetched considering Odin is nearly omniscient. Still, it's as good a guess as any at this point.

The Avengers: Infinity War hits US theaters May 4th, 2018.
