Lucasfilm Has a New 4K Restoration of 'Star Wars: A New Hope'
Rogue One just came out in theaters, so naturally, we're all in a Star Wars mood and looking forward to our next OT re-watch. But when it comes to A New Hope, we might not be watching it on our TV/computer screens, but in the theater once again. According to Gareth Edwards, Lucasfilm has a 4K restoration of the first Star Wars film finished and ready to go.

Opening quote
"On day one, we were in Lucasfilm in San Francisco with Industrial Light and Magic and John [Knoll], our supervisor, he said that they've got a brand new 4K restoration print of 'A New Hope' - it had literally just been finished," Edwards told Little White Lies. "He suggested we sit and watch it."
Closing quote

This is pretty exciting, especially considering that the 40th anniversary of A New Hope is next year. Did Edwards just spill the beans that they're going to re-release the film for its 40th birthday? And most importantly, is it the top-secret original theatrical version? We'll have to wait and see, but Edwards is a reliable source, so it's probably safe to say that there will be a big announcement coming from Lucasfilm soon.
