Woody Harrelson Confirms Predictions About His 'Han Solo' Role
Did we just learn the identity of Woody Harrelson's top-secret Han Solo movie character? It sure seems that way, after the actor appeared to confirm that he will be portraying Garris Shrike in an interview on Sunday.

Speaking to Variety, the Hunger Games star was asked if he could confirm that he was indeed playing Han Solo's mentor in the upcoming Star Wars film, and the interviewer specifically mentions the name Garris Shrike. Harrelson asks her to repeat the question, and she says, "Are you playing Garris..." and then trails off. After some hemming and hawing, Harrelson confirms that he is, though it's not completely clear if he was confirming that he's playing Shrike, or if he was just confirming that he's playing Han's mentor. Check out the video for yourself below:

For those trying to remember which Star Wars movie Garris Shrike is, you can give up. The character comes from the Expanded Universe, and he appeared in a number of Star Wars novels beginning with 1997's The Paradise Snare. He was a former bounty hunter who turned to a life of crime, raising a number of orphans to do his bidding. One such orphan was Han Solo, who eventually rebelled against Shrike's cruel hold over him.

When Lucasfilm was bought by Disney a few years back, the Expanded Universe was declared non-canon with the caveat that its characters could still show up in future Star Wars installments, which has already happened with characters like Thrawn in the animated Star Wars: Rebels. So if Harrelson is indeed playing Shrike, he may not have the same backstory or personality that fans of those novels are familiar with, or Lucasfilm may decide to make him a more likable mentor like his character in Hunger Games. We'll probably have to wait until the movie comes out to know for sure.

The untitled Star Wars Han Solo film hits theaters on May 25, 2018.
