Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 is mere months away and Groot fever is once again returning to the world. One of the biggest (and now cutest) breakout characters in all the MCU, it was inevitable that talk of a Groot spinoff movie would come up eventually.

Vin Diesel, voice of the lovable little piece of timber, recently sat down to do an interview about another of his movies, xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, and the topic of discussion turned quickly toward the idea of a Groot movie. Diesel, who comes across about as different from his gruff, Fast And Furious persona as possible in the interview, was completely on board. Among other things, he reveals that director James Gunn had already had discussions with him about the project:

Opening quote
"It's something that James Gunn has talked about and something that I knew he would love to do. Sure, I think it could be very interesting. I think it's inevitable. That character is so enigmatic and he was already one of the most unique characters in the Marvel universe, and I think what Marvel has done, and what James Gunn has done to realize that character, has exceeded beyond anyone's expectations. It's just such an interesting character and there's so much to learn about him. I'd love to go back to his planet and learn more about him, and I think the world would too.
Closing quote

While the idea of giving Groot more screen time will have many fans squeeling in joy, it should be noted that sometimes a character's best moments work because of the chemistry with other characters (like the scene in the trailer where Baby Groot exasperates Rocket Raccoon). At the very least, a Groot movie would include Rocket Raccoon and maybe some form of the Guardians in order to give Groot people to bounce off of. The fear would be that a movie solely revolving around Groot might take away some of his mysterious and lovable nature, since much of the joy of the character is contrasting his actions with those around him. As much as we hate to admit it, there may be such thing as too much Groot.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 is due to hit US theaters on May 5th, 2017.
