'Transformers: The Last Knight' Super Bowl Trailer Shows an Autobot Fight
Paramount Pictures
The fifth installment in the Transformers series, and possibly director Michael Bay's last entry, will be upon us later this year with Transformers: The Last Knight. And like many things which'll be upon us later this year, there's going to be big commercial for it in the Super Bowl.
But for a filmmaker so fond of explosions, Bay oddly couldn't wait for the surprise. Just hours before the big game, he decided to show us early and upload an extended version of the TV spot onto his YouTube account:
It's definitely a reminder that Optimus Prime is gonna be a bad guy this time around, if the Decepticon-purple eyes weren't obvious from the beginning. As the Transformers-human war continues with Mark Wahlberg once again in the dead center, this time we see Optimus beating down his fellow Autobots in a clash with Bumblebee. Otherwise, we see very few other Transformers for some reason, with even Megatron being absent.
Optimus being evil has been the center of the movie's marketing since the beginning, with the aforementioned purple eyes as well as the tagline, "Rethink your heroes." Optimus isn't the same plastic action figure you had as a kid anymore, he's gone rogue now:
The trailer also promises to answer the question, "Why do the Transformers keep coming to Earth?" We can think of lots of financial reasons why shooting the movie on Earth makes sense, but we're curious to hear the in-universe reason as well.
Transformers: The Last Knight comes out June 23, 2017.
