New 'Ghost in the Shell' Trailer Teases the Major's Search for Her Past
Paramount has just released a brand-new trailer for the upcoming Ghost in the Shell, the modern American adaptation of the Japanese anime and manga of the same name. While the previous trailers we've seen so far focused mostly on the movie's big action set-pieces, this new glimpse gives us a better idea of the story at the heart of the movie.
Scarlett Johansson's character, the Major, is a cyborg used by the government as an elite crime-fighting tool—but according to the new trailer, things aren't as clear-cut as they seem. In this new footage, we meet the villainous cyborg Kuze, who hints that the Major's past is more complex than she realizes. Watch below!
Plenty of the footage we've seen so far suggests that large parts of the new Ghost in the Shell have been created by mirroring the original anime shot-for-shot. Still, the plot of the adaptation is kept vague in the new trailer, with the only concrete concept being that the Major has more to learn about where she came from.
Whatever's coming in the final movie, we don't have long to wait—Ghost in the Shell hits theaters March 31.
