Canadian UFO Sightings Rocket In 2012
UFO Sightings in Canada reached record new heights in 2012, CBC News reports. The figure of 1,981 sightings reported last year was almost a 100% increase on the country's previos high of 1,004, which occurred in 2008.
Gathered by various non-governmental organizations, the record haul of sightings have largely been explained, however, around 7% have not yet been debunked. The trend of increased sightings in Canada is one that is matched in the majority of countries around the world, but just what is behind this increase is up for debate.
Many believe these figures to be a genuine reflection of increased extraterrestrial activity on our planet, however the common consensus among skeptics and believers alike is somewhat more complex. As technology improves, a wider range of people find themselves with the ability to record airborne anomalies. This has no doubt been a major factor in the proliferation of sightings in recent years.
As mentioned before, many of these sightings are explained with ease by experts in the field. Chinese fire lanterns, civilian and military aircraft, and even stars are regular explanations, but as is the case with Canada's bumper year of sightings, there are always those that remain filed with the unknown. While we should always exercise caution with what we submit as a genuine sighting, the power to record anomalies on the fly can only help speed up the search for genuine extraterrestrial contact.
