'Star Trek' Actor Alexander Siddig Will Appear as Ra’s Al Ghul on 'Gotham'
Having already lived in space stations and Westeros, actor Alexander Siddig is now moving to the city of Gotham. Most recently known as the wheelchair-bound Prince Doran Martell on Game of Thrones, Siddig is now taking up a bright green cape and sword as Ra's al Ghul for Fox's Gotham.
Siddig was pretty sedentary as Doran, and did very little story-wise before his character got kicked off the show, but that should change once he appears on Gotham. Ra's al Ghul is the immortal leader of an ancient League of Assassins and known for his shirtless sword fighting and impressive facial hair. Ra's al Ghul was previously played by Liam Neeson in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises and Matt Nable in Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
Star Trek fans may also recognize Siddig from his seven seasons on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Dr. Julian Bashir. Beyond that, he appeared in Clash of the Titans as Hermes, and had a recent stint on Peaky Blinders as Ruben Oliver. Neither Dr. Bashir, Doran or any other of these characters were quite so devious as Ra's, so it's going to be interesting to how Siddig plays the character. But Ra's has also always been a more distinguished Batman villain, and that's something Siddig is certainly capable of.
This Batman character was the brainchild of DC Comics editor Julius Schwartz, writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Neal Adams in 1971. Ra's al Ghul became a beloved villain swiftly, as he rivaled Batman, Superman, Green Arrow, and other DC superheroes.
Ra's al Ghul will be discovered when a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) investigates the secret and powerful Court of Owls Council. He is expected to appear on the show sometime after the show returns from its winter hiatus on April 24, 2017.
