‘Deadpool 2’ Casting Rumors Point to Michael Shannon as Cable
Deadpool 2 has been getting a lot of buzz lately, most of which has been rumors as to who will play Cable opposite Zazie Beetz's Domino. And there have been lots of rumors: Stranger Things' David Harbour, James Bond's Pierce Brosnan, and Russell Crowe have all made headlines for merely being considered in the role.
The latest actor to come out of the rumor mill is General Zod himself, Michael Shannon, and inside sources are insisting he's the real frontrunner for the role this time. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shannon is leading the pack as the top choice for Domino's time-traveling boyfriend and Deadpool's reluctant best friend. This actually isn't the first time Shannon has been considered; he was reported earlier this month to have dropped out of the running due to scheduling issues, most likely because he's filming What They Had this spring.
We would imagine either Shannon's schedule or the shooting timeline has changed in order for Shannon to be back in the running. The movie is scheduled to begin filming in Vancouver this summer. Shannon is best known for playing General Zod in Man of Steel, Bobby Andes in Nocturnal Animals, and Roy in Midnight Special opposite The Force Awakens' Adam Driver.
In case you need a refresher, Cable is a time travelling X-Force mutant who is used to people following his orders, before he met Wade Wilson. He has a bionic arm, cybernetic eye, and embedded technology that allows him to hack into computer systems. At first glance, Shannon doesn't seem to fit the Cable description quite like fan-favorite Stephen Lang (yet another potential actor), but we've been pleased with Deadpool castings in the past, so we'll trust the creative team for now. But hopefully we'll know soon, because this is getting ridiculous.
Deadpool 2 will be out in 2018.
