‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Teaser Shows Three Rivals in Their Thrones
HBO has released an ominous new teaser for season seven of Game of Thrones, roughly around the time that the show would normally be premiering. Instead, Game of Thrones will be hitting screens in July, due to a postponed production schedule.
The new trailer isn't as much of a sneak peek as it is a suggestion as to who we can expect to see at the top of their game this season. Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) are seen walking to their respective thrones as James' heavy tune of "Sit Down" reverberates in the background.
Since these three characters have never crossed paths as of yet, it should be quite the explosion when they finally do. As we already know, Jon Snow and Daenerys have serious shots at the Iron Throne, the one currently filled by Cersei (even if Jon is content being King in the North right now). Those two both have armies backing them, whereas Cersei has King's Landing and anyone there she hasn't blown up yet.
The teaser closes out with Cersei letting out a deep exhale, her breath freezing in the air, some heavy-handed symbolism that winter is coming. The camera then pans out to reveal the eye of the Night King, reminding viewers that the three rivals have much more to fear than just each other. We're just happy we didn't have to watch ice melt for an hour before getting the to see the a peak into the season, which hopefully includes Arya and Nymeria reuniting.
Game of Thrones premieres with a seven-episode season July 16, 2017.
