Pierce Brosnan Denies Any Cable Rumors for 'Deadpool 2'
There has been a ton of speculation surrounding the casting of Cable for Deadpool 2, and for a while, Pierce Brosnan seemed to be at the front of the pack as far as rumors were concerned. But the James Bond actor has recently addressed his involvement in the film with a firm "no."
The buzz started earlier this year when Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds posted a photo of Hugh Jackman, Brosnan, and himself on Instagram. But it was only last night that Brosnan finally squashed the Cable rumors on Jimmy Kimmel - when asked if he was going to play Cable, Brosnan shook his head, saying, "Nothing's come my way yet." He explained the circumstances of an Instagram picture that launched all the rumors:
Sounds innocent enough. For the fans that were rooting for Brosnan to take on the role, there may still be hope. He never said that he wouldn't; only that he hadn't been asked or cast. For reference, here was the photo:

There's no hinting at Brosnan playing Cable beyond his sandwiching between Deadpool and Wolverine. But his buddying around with them, combined with the fact that he looks exactly like the fictional mutant, fired off rumors all the same. Jackman joined in with his own photo and the rumors only gained more traction.
"They know where to find me," Brosnan said of the team behind Fox's Deadpool sequel. Hear him talk about it below starting around 3:20 – or see his psychedelic artwork beforehand.
If Brosnan doesn't take on the role, rumors suggest Michael Shannon (General Zod in Man of Steel) will portray the telekinetic time-traveler opposite Zazie Beetz. Brosnan is one of our favorite contenders for the role, and for that reason we hope he was perhaps bluffing after all. Because again, he looks just like Cable.
Deadpool 2 will hit theaters, with or without Brosnan, in 2018.
