Star Wars Celebration Gives an Emotional Tribute to Carrie Fisher
With the Star Wars Celebration in full swing, we expected a Carrie Fisher tribute, but we didn't properly prepare for how damn sentimental it would make us. The video was screened at the end of the 40th anniversary panel - a sad way to close, but there couldn't have been any other way.
The tribute includes kind words from George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and J.J. Abrams. It was accompanied at the panel by messages from Lucas himself, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Billie Lourd (Fisher's daughter), and a live performance of "Leia's Theme" conducted by longtime Star Wars composer John Williams.
Almost four months after her passing, the homage is a reminder of how wonderful Fisher was as a person, mother, friend, actor, and advocate for mental health. From Star Wars clips to interview snippets to public appearances, Fisher shines in the tribute. Her sense of humor is vividly captured - when asked if she had any advice for the newer cast members of the Star Wars franchise, she replied, "I've told Daisy not to go through the crew like wildfire."
If you need more Fisher in your life, watch HBO's Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Wishful Drinking, Fisher's one-woman stage show available on HBO, and stay tuned for her final appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which comes to theaters December 15, 2017.
