Zoe Saldana Possibly Revealed the Title of 'Avengers 4'
Marvel/Disney
When Marvel first announced they were adopting the classic "Infinity Gauntlet" storyline in 2014, it was announced as a two-part epic that would come out through both 2018 and 2019. This wasn't too shocking at the time, as two-part finales were all the rage with franchises like Twilight, Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games all taking this route to milk their cash cows for as long as they could.

But in the last couple of years there's been a tremendous backlash against this splitting of film plots, and last year Marvel changed course. They condensed Infinity War to just one film, while announcing that the next Avengers movie would have its own, separate title and would exist as its own, separate film. Marvel has been pretty cagey when it comes to revealing the name of that mystery Avengers film, usually just referred to as Avengers 4, and just yesterday studio head Kevin Feige said the reason the title of the film hasn't been revealed is because it's actually a spoiler.

That's why we're super surprised to hear Zoe Saldana, AKA Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy (and eventually in Infinity War), reveal what sounds an awful lot like the title of the fourth film in an interview today - and it doesn't sound anything like a spoiler. "I think the Guardians just shot their part when it comes to Infinity War, that's the first part?" she says. "And we all have to go back for Gauntlet later this year." Check it out below:

So, if Saldana is correct, then the title of the fourth Avengers film is Gauntlet, or more likely, Infinity Gauntlet. If that's correct, well, then that would mean a couple things. For one, it would mean that Feige was exaggerating when he called the title a spoiler. Anyone who knows even the most rudimentary basics of Infinity War knows that it involves Thanos filling a gauntlet with Infinity Stones and creating the Infinity Gauntlet. Hell, we've even already seen the empty gauntlet back in 2015 at the end of Age of Ultron.

But the bigger story here, other than the "spoiler" misdirection, would be that the two upcoming Avengers movies really are still parts one and two of the same movie - even if that's not what they're called. If there is a spoiler here, it's that the story in Infinity War probably won't be wrapped up by the time the movie ends. Infinity War and Infinity Gauntlet would presumably be two halves of the same story (in the comics, Infinity War was the direct sequel to Infinity Gauntlet), meaning all this talk about the fourth Avengers movie being a separate standalone movie is smoke and mirrors.

It's entirely possible that Marvel kept the plan for the films exactly the same and only changed the titles as a way to try and avoid the backlash of having a film split in two parts, but if they're trotting out Infinity War and Infinity Gauntlet then that's exactly what they're doing.

We haven't heard any confirmation either way on the veracity of what Saldana said, and she admittedly does sound a little unsure of herself in the interview, but if Avengers 4 really does end being part two of Infinity War after Marvel promised that wasn't the case, then the House of Ideas is gonna have some explaining to do.
