Donald Glover is Bringing an Animated ‘Deadpool’ Series to FXX
With the explosive box office success of Deadpool last year, the vigilante has become a hot commodity. It's not surprising, then, that FXX has greenlighted an animated series for the twisted superhero.
Bringing it to the small screen will be Donald Glover and his brother Stephen, who are serving as showrunners, executive producers, and writers (the two previously worked together on Donald's show Atlanta). Alongside the Glover brothers, Marvel Head of TV Jeph Loeb (Luke Cage, Daredevil, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Marvel veteran Jim Chory (Legion, Runaways) have also signed on to be executive producers.
While Glover's been appearing throughout Marvel shows and movies lately - he voiced Miles Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon and will appear in some form in Spider-Man: Homecoming - this is his biggest Marvel project yet. Nick Grad, co-president of original programming at FX Networks and FX Productions, believes that the Glovers have the right style to keep the series in line with the witty and inventive tone of the movie, most likely due to the innovative and risk-taking structure of Atlanta.
Grad isn't the only one eagerly anticipating the series. As Marvel's TV bigwig, Loeb has his fair share of experience in the Marvel universe, and it seems he has yet to tired of it.
Donald Glover is definitely versatile. While season two of Atlanta is on hold, and before production for the animated Deadpool series can begin, Glover is busy filming his young Lando Calrissian role for the Han Solo film. We suppose Glover likes to keep busy, which will come in handy if he is to dive deeper into the infinite Marvel universe.
FXX has already ordered a 10-episode series of the animated Deadpool show to premiere in 2018.
