A Bold New 'Star Trek: Discovery' Trailer Has Finally Arrived
The trailer for the newest Star Trek show in sixteen years is finally here and it looks fantastic. Ever since its announcement, Star Trek: Discovery has been building hype as a prequel to the original series starring Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead, Once Upon a Time) - and then losing hype due to its constant delays by CBS.
But CBS has enough of the show together that we can get a full first look at what Discovery has to offer. When it finally airs, the series will star Martin-Green as Michael Burnham, First Officer of the USS Discovery, alongside Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Marco Polo) and Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter, Star Wars Rebels) as Captain Georgiou and Captain Lorca, respectively.
The trailer focuses mainly on Burnham and Captain Georgiou, with some bits and pieces of Sarek (James Frain) and possibly a young Spock:
Although CBS originally ordered 13 episodes to series, they've bumped the show to a 15 episode season. Given the trailer, we can see why - between the special effects, diverse cast, and nostalgia, we're on the edge of our seats as we anticipate the CBS All Access original. Visually, it looks a bit like Star Trek: Enterprise, which is concerning, but so far it's promised to feel more like the original show, and that certainly shines through here.
The show will take place ten years before the likes of Spock and Kirk, a time with an entirely new set of challenges. The trailer shows Michael Burnham stepping up to the plate as Captain Georgiou offers her the opportunity to command her own starship. When a mysterious object is sighted at the edge of Federation space, the Captains find themselves on the brink of war with the Klingons. During a time of intense turbulence and conflict, Burnham must rise to save her fleet.
Star Trek: Discovery will premiere on CBS and debut on the CBS All Access Streaming Channel this fall.
