Jedi Master Mace Windu Returns in a New 'Star Wars' Comic Series
Whenever Samuel L. Jackson is involved, from The Avengers to Pulp Fiction, you know he's going to be effortlessly cool. Mace Windu is no different. The no-nonsense Jedi master appeared throughout the Star Wars prequel trilogy yielding a purple lightsaber, which he used to obliterate every battle droid that came his way, and (almost) every Sith lord.
And while Jackson himself won't be there, Master Windu is back once again. Marvel and Lucasfilm have announced that their next Star Wars comic will be Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic - Mace Windu, a five-issue miniseries hitting stands this summer. As for the creative team, the comics will be written by Matthew Owens and illustrated by Denys Cowan, with the first cover drawn by Jesus Saiz.
Owens is a staff writer on Luke Cage and story editor on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. while Cowan is the artist behind DC's The Question and has produced The Boondocks and Black Panther - he's also served as Senior Vice President of Animation at BET and Sr. VP at Motown Animation and Filmworks. Suffice to say, these two powerhouses can be trusted with the fate of Mace Windu.
Since for obvious reasons, a Mace Windu story can't be set in the original or the new trilogies like other current Star Wars comic books, Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic occurs on the brink of the Clone Wars, where Master Windu will have to embrace peace or lose his Jedi troop. Marvel released a statement from Owens describing the thoughts running through the mind of a Jedi in this tense time.
The first issue of Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic - Mace Windu will be available in comic stores this August 2017.
