'Batman and Harley Quinn' Trailer Looks Like the Classic Batman Cartoon
Warner Bros.
After the animated Batman: The Killing Joke came out to poor reviews last year (our review included), Warner Bros. Animation is taking a lighter approach to their next film, Batman and Harley Quinn. In fact, it's looking like the most comedic Batman movie since the 1960s film starring Adam "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb" West.

And perhaps more so, it has a very similar art style to the classic Batman: The Animated Series cartoon from the 90s, whose style would continue into the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited cartoons. It definitely has that nostalgia factor playing to its favor, although the first shot of a guy trying to grope Harley (she puts a stop to that) already suggests it's shooting to be somewhat more mature than the cartoon. Check it out below:

Unsurprisingly, the movie follows Batman (and Nightwing) in a team-up with Harley as they go stop Poison Ivy from doing something involving Alec Holland/Swamp Thing that could end with the world being destroyed. It seems like a pretty standard superhero plot, but the direct-to-video animated film doesn't seem like it's trying to be much more, so we won't knock it for that.

True to form, the Dark Knight will be voiced by Kevin Conroy, who's done the voice in nearly every modern Batman cartoon and video game (both the Arkham and Injustice series included). Loren Lester also returns as Nightwing, although Harley is voiced by Melissa Raunch (Big Bang Theory) instead of Arleen Sorkin this time, which is a shame.

Batman and Harley Quinn comes out summer 2017 on Blu-ray and Digital HD.
