'Okja' Trailer Shows Off Positive Reviews and Its Lovable Pig Monster
Okja may not be coming to theaters everywhere, but Netflix's upcoming sci-fi romp will premiere on the streaming service at the end of the month. And as its (presumably) final trailer is happy to explain, Snowpiercer director Bong Joon-Ho's new film has been getting some glowing reviews.
If you haven't seen the previous trailers or its odd promos about pig dreams, Okja tells the story of a young girl named Mija (An Seo Hyun) who cares for a giant, friendly animal named Okja, and who rushes off to save it when a massive corporation led by Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton) kidnaps Okja to help them create genetically engineered livestock. It looks a fun adventure in the vein of E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, and the CGI Okja is a suitably cute, although giant, pig monster:
A lot of footage here can be found in some previous trailers, but now that several reviews have come out, showcasing them all seems to be the goal here. While it sounds like Okja's been landing well with critics, the movie has certainly made some enemies - the Cannes Festival gave the film a very hostile welcoming because of the threat Netflix seems to pose toward traditional movie theaters. And various theaters, including many in South Korea, have refused to screen it unless Netflix delays the streaming date, which they've refused to do.
But regardless, you won't have to go far to see the movie when it premieres on Netflix, and which looks to be exploring themes of animal rights, consumerism, and environmentalism. Alongside Swinton and newcomer An Seo Hyun, the film also stars Paul Dano,The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun, Lily Collins, Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito, and Jake Gyllenhaal. And of course, Okja.
Okja comes to Netflix on June 28, 2017.
