'Star Trek: Discovery' Shows a First Look at Jason Isaacs' Captain Lorca
CBS
The first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery looked great, although it left out some key details. One of which was the USS Discovery's captain, Gabriel Lorca (played by Jason Isaacs, known for his sneering as Lucius Malfoy throughout the Harry Potter films).

To be fair, the captain isn't the main character this time around - that would be Sonequa Martin-Green's First Officer Burnham - but many were curious about the former Malfoy actor's whereabouts. But in this image first published by EW, we can finally see the guy in charge of the ship they named the entire show after.

Because Discovery will be a prequel series, he's dressed in an old-fashioned Star Trek: Enterprise-esque uniform, and because Captain Lorca is played by Jason Isaacs, he looks pretty mean. See for yourself:

Compared to the show's other starship captain, Philippa Georgiou of the USS Shenzhou (played by Michelle Yeoh of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Lorca here looks a little less composed and a little bit angrier. Interestingly, the show may be starting with main character Michael Burnham as a first officer aboard the Shenzhou - but since the show is titled Discovery, which is the name of Lorca's ship, she might see some sort of transfer.

Unless the show's actually called Star Trek: Shenzhou, it seems unlikely that the main story will stay off the USS Discovery for too long, which could suggest a grisly fate for Shenzhou captain Georgiou. There's some evidence regarding the plot that points to a large-scale conflict with the Klingons and/or the Romulans, so some casualties are likely, even for all the non-redshirts in the Federation. But we'll know for sure when the show premieres this fall.

Star Trek: Discovery premieres September 24, 2017 on CBS and their streaming service, CBS All Access.
