Early Reactions to 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' are Thrilled by the New Web-Slinger
While there's still a press embargo until the end of the month - which means no full movie reviews can come out - some restrictions on social media have been lifted. Which means a ton of film critics just collectively tweeted out their thoughts on the movie, and all of them think Homecoming is a spectacular Spider-Man movie. While some were more positive than others, the general consensus seems to be: Tom Holland is a great Peter Parker, Michael Keaton is a great Vulture, the high school stuff is funny, and the movie deserves the tons of money it will inevitably make.
Oddly, nobody mentions Iron Man, even though Robert Downey Jr. was such a huge marketing presence. And importantly, despite how much the trailers seemed to reveal, there are still surprises we haven't seen yet. Considering how that was a major concern among many fans, it's a relief to hear the story isn't as clear cut as the marketing made it look. Here's a sampling of those glowing first reactions, starting with current Spider-Man comic writer Dan Slott:
Spider-Man Homecoming is a hilarious John Hughes-style high school movie disguised as a superhero film. Second best spidey film.— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) June 24, 2017
As a huge Spider-Man fan who hated both AMAZING SPIDER-MANs, I am so happy to say SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is really fun. Tom Holland =— Matt Singer (@mattsinger) June 24, 2017
Absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED Spider-Man Homecoming. Funny. Filled with surprises. Tons of fun. Going to make insane $ at box office. pic.twitter.com/8cxce4OmHi— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) June 24, 2017
It's a real delight and a lot of fun, his world feels rich & detailed, Keaton is & Holland is a charming Spider-ManBoy #SpiderManHomecoming— jen yamato (@jenyamato) June 24, 2017
I was also surprised at the number of times Homecoming surprised me, despite all the rumors I read. Though I'd advise to stop doing that now— Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) June 24, 2017
#SpiderManHomecoming is the third best Spider-Man movie. The cast is great, the tone is affable, the drama is... a little thin, honestly.— William Bibbiani (@WilliamBibbiani) June 24, 2017
#SpiderManHomecoming is fantastic. Perfectly cast. Does an impressive job of balancing superheroics & high school drama.— Angie J. Han (@ajhan) June 24, 2017
And some notes about the post-credit scenes, for good measure - there's only two, as opposed to the whopping five scenes from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. No Venom either, in case you heard a rumor Tom Hardy might make a cameo (we certainly didn't make that claim):

2 credit scenes. One sets up a future sequel. One is silly.
There is NO Venom anywhere. That is a bogus rumor.
