One of the fun things about the MCU is that every now and then, just for kicks and giggles, the guys in charge will make a popular fan theory canon. First, there was the theory that Stan Lee was secretly a Watcher, explaining all of his various cameos throughout the Marvel movies - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ended up confirming it halfway through the movie.

Now, current Spider-Man actor Tom Holland confirmed another popular fan theory, this time about his own character. According to Holland, Captain America: Civil War is not the first time Peter Parker and Tony Stark have been on-screen together. Speaking to the Huffington Post, Holland stated that, as many fans had speculated, young teeny tiny Peter can be seen briefly in Iron Man 2, as a kid in an Iron Man mask standing up to a robot drone at the Starkworld Expo:

Holland explains:

Opening quote
"I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I've just done a big, old spoiler, but it's out there now. It's cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning."

Fans had long speculated that the mysterious, masked kid from Iron Man 2 back in 2010 might have some greater significance to the MCU - after all, his age lines up perfectly with how young Peter would be in that movie, and as the Starkworld Expo takes place in Queens, it'd be simple for this pint-sized New Yorker to get the chance to see his hero. Here's the Iron Man 2 scene in question:

It also adds an extra layer of nuance to the relationship between Peter and Tony - clearly, young Spidey has idolized Iron Man for a long time, so getting a chance to work with him and win his approval ("Nice work, kid") is all the more significant. As this is a central theme in Spider-man: Homecoming, it's nice to imagine Peter's achieving his childhood dream of fighting bad guys alongside Iron Man.

But here's a good question - if the little kid in Iron Man 2 is a significant superhero, then who is the little kid in Amazing Spider-Man 2?

We may never know that, but you can catch the teenage Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming when it hits theaters July 7, 2017.
