'Justice League' Rumors Claim Superman Will Turn Evil in the Upcoming Trailer

Superman: a beacon of Truth, Justice, and the American Way. A hero for the ages, known for his warmth, kindness, and optimism. And, when Zack Snyder is directing him, a murderous whiner who delights in property damage and hates the chore of having to save people.

It's not an understatement to claim that Superman fans haven't been overly fond of the grumpy, selfish version of the character that's shown up in the DCEU thus far. If new rumors are true, though, we haven't seen anything yet—according to rumors, an upcoming trailer for Justice League is going to show a fiery, vengeful, angry Superman who's dressed in black and, worst of all, sports his terrible Nineties mullet.

If Reddit is to be believed (unlikely as that may seem):
Opening quote
"After the JL title card we get the money shot. Batman is driving towards some kind of ship when Superman in the new suit, beard, and mullet lands right in front of it, red eyes and an evil smirk (fire in the background, raining ash, great visual shot) while Batman has a look of "oh, s%$&" as the trailer ends."
Closing quote

Taking this with a crunchy, eye-watering spoonful of salt, it's possible that we might see a very angry, evil-looking resurrected Superman in Justice League. Henry Cavill teased a black costume during the early days of production, and this visual certainly sounds like the direction that Zack Snyder has been heading with the character over the past two movies.

This scene sounds a lot like the actual return of Superman after his death in the comics—it was a difficult time for the medium, when superheroes all needed to be edgy and dark, and mullets were bizarrely considered cool.

That said, it's hard to imagine that we'll be getting a genuinely evil Superman in Justice League. There's something of a Batman v Superman feel to this, as if the movie will promise a big fight between Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent before ultimately moving on to weightier matters when Clark is convinced to snap out of his temporary angry phase.

It's hard to argue this when you consider that Cavill has also been seen on-set in his traditional red and blue pajamas, hinting that any black, bearded, mullety moments will be short-lived.

After all, DC wouldn't be foolish enough to actually make Superman the villain in a Justice League movie, right? That'd be like making Iron Man the villain in a Captain America film.

Wait.
