There are certain things you expect from an Iron Man movie. Robert Downey Jr. will improvise a few jokes, Stan Lee will show up at some point, and Tony Stark will get at least one new robotic suit.

The costume's gone through a variety of different appearances over the years, each of which keeps the basic design of the original, but adds some new functionality (like being able to fit in a suitcase). Having replaced his inferior old suit, which was smashed up by a very angry Steve Rogers in Civil War, it looks like Tony's going to be sporting a new, fairly sleek design in the upcoming Infinity War.

It's worth assuming that this new suit will have a wealth of new abilities and powers—Tony's not the kind of guy to let Captain America wail on him with a vibranium shield without making a new suit of armor that has special anti-Cap powers. While there's no indication of this at the present, it wouldn't be surprising if this new suit is made partially of vibranium itself, in order to fend off attacks from the Star Spangled Man. Either way, we'll be seeing more vibranium in Black Panther, so the idea would be easy to introduce.

The shape of the ARC reactor on this new suit is interesting, especially when a recent set photo from Robert Downey Jr. himself showed a gaping hole in the actor's costume where a new reactor might sit. Let's hope that Tony isn't going to end up getting injured in battle again, as finally getting the shrapnel removed from his heart at the end of Iron Man 3 is a good way to wrap up that particular story point and show the character's growth.

However, with Doctor Strange in these set photos as well, the real question should probably be whether the new suit is magic proof.

Avengers: Infinity War hits US theaters on May 4th, 2018.
