Iron Man and Drax Will Have 'Immediate' Chemistry in 'Avengers: Infinity War'
Marvel/Disney
Ever since it was announced that the Guardians of the Galaxy would be showing up in Avengers: Infinity War, one particular team-up that's been much discussed is Drax the Destroyer meeting up with Iron Man.

Something about seeing a big, lovable yet very literal alien trying to keep up with the sardonic wit of the MCU's friendliest jerk just seems like it would be absolute gold on the big screen. Nobody has been championing this more than Dave Bautista, who plays Drax himself - Bautista hasn't been shy about expressing his admiration for Robert Downey Jr, and his eagerness to get to work with him on a Marvel movie.

Now, with a huge grin on his face, Bautista has happily confirmed that yes, Drax and Tony Stark will indeed share a scene in Infinity War, and yes, it's amazing. Even better, apparently, than Bautista had even hoped.

Speaking to Good Morning Australia, Bautista gushed about the wonderful experience of working with RDJ:

Opening quote
"Robert Downey Jr.'s been on a pedestal with me since I was a very young man. I've just always admired him and been a fan. I've said for years and years and years that I hope the crossover happened because I thought that Drax would have such great interactions with Tony Stark and Robert Downey Jr. It just all kind of came to fruition and actually its gonna happen and it's good. It's really good. It's better than I ever thought it would be."
Closing quote

It really is nice just how much Bautista cares about his job, and it's wonderfully endearing that he's just so pleased to be involved with the MCU, especially considering how fantastic he is in both GotG movies. It's also nice to get a better understanding of just how much of a crossover between the Guardians and the Avengers we'll be getting: this is a big movie, with a lot of characters, so it would be understandable if there simply wasn't enough time for all the characters to have a moment with each other.

We also know from the footage shown at D23 that at some point the Guardians will (quite literally) bump into Thor, but as the Asgardian is a less terrestrial character himself, this pairing seems a little more inevitable. That the film will feature Drax and Iron Man hanging out, even briefly, suggests that the Russo Brothers and Kevin Feige have deliberately structured this movie around character interactions that fans most want to see, and that's wonderful.

Infinity War is going to be big, complex, and brimming with interesting characters. The challenge for Marvel will be negotiating the relationships between these characters in a way that tells a meaningful story, without feeling bloated or overstuffed. If the current plan gives us a fun moment between Drax and Iron Man, it sounds like the studio is at the very least going to deliver on its big crossover promise, and that in and of itself is something to get excited about.

Avengers: Infinity War comes out May 4, 2018.
