'Hellboy' Reboot Adds Milla Jovovich as the Villainous 'Blood Queen'

Now that an R-rated Hellboy reboot is in the works, it'll take a suitably macabre villain to unleash hell (or at least try to) if the movie wants to draw in fans without Guillermo del Toro or Ron Perlman being involved anymore.

According to Deadline, Neil Marshall's Hellboy - currently called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, but that might just be a working title - is set to cast sci-fi/horror actress Milla Jovovich as the working title's eponymous Blood Queen. Jovovich is in final talks for the role, and will fight against Stranger Things star David Harbour once he's all covered in red paint, as well as Ian McShane (American Gods) as the new Professor Broom, replacing the late John Hurt from the del Toro films.

It's admittedly still tough to get onboard with the new movie ever since Guillermo del Toro promised that his Hellboy 3 is 100 percent not happening. That being said, this a great cast so far with just Harbour and McShane alone, and Jovovich has plenty of experience making weird movies, as anybody who's seen Luc Besson's The Fifth Element or any of the countless Resident Evil movies will tell you.

Basically, while there's little precedent for how a "Blood Queen" should be cast, Jovovich seems just as strong of a choice as any. If the movie is sticking to Mike Mignola's Hellboy comics, the Blood Queen will likely be a crazed British witch who lived during Arthurian times, and who was essentially a corrupted Lady of the Lake. You know, the usual fare for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.

While we're slowly growing more optimistic about this movie as more news comes out, anyone who still misses del Toro can look forward to his next film The Shape of Water, which includes a monster suspiciously similar to Abe Sapien. Good old aquatic Abe is hopefully set to appear in Hellboy as well, even though no news is out yet on that front.

Neil Marshall's Hellboy movie does not have a scheduled release date at this time.
