'Black Mirror' Unveils its Season 4 Episodes in a New Teaser
Netflix
It's been several months since we last got word on Black Mirror's fourth season. After season three showed the creepiest episodes yet of the technology-themed equivalent to The Twilight Zone, Netflix only confirmed a new season would be here at some point. Eventually.

Now, Netflix finally released an official teaser that's not long enough to be a trailer, but does provide some disturbing visuals from each of the fourth season's six episodes, along with the titles of each. In this order, the new Black Mirror episodes are called "Crocodile," "Arkangel," "Hang the DJ," "USS Callister," "Metalhead," and "Black Museum," with some already strange-looking themes based on what's been shown.

Check out the full teaser below, and be on the lookout for Jesse Plemons (who played Todd in Breaking Bad's final season) as some sort of starship captain:

What immediately stands out is "USS Callister," which appears to be a full-out Star Trek satire, complete with colorful uniforms, an Enterprise-esque ship, and Plemons as a cocky Kirk-styled captain (he doesn't say anything, but just look at the smirk on his face). Black Mirror has never gone that far into the future, preferring to ground its horror in the ever present reminder that these things could soon happen in real life. So unless the Star Trek world is some sort of virtual reality, it's where Black Mirror has never gone before.

Also notable is how "Metalhead" seems to be shot in black and white, with a simplistic four-legged robot that could have come straight from Boston Dynamics (except this one seems murderous). And "Arkangel," while only showing a panicking mother and her possibly injured daughter, is directed by Jodie Foster.

The other episodes don't show enough to parse what exactly is happening, at least not yet. "Black Museum" has some sort of strange helmet that will clearly be scrambling people's brains, and "Hang the DJ" seems to be about online dating (the title comes from a lyric in "Panic" by The Smiths). But considering each episode is written by series creator Charlie Brooker, it can be assumed they'll be terrifying.

But if you've ever wanted to watch an episode of Star Trek that's as terrifying as Black Mirror, then "USS Callister" may be for you. If that ends up being too much, at least there'll be regular Star Trek: Discovery, and Seth MacFarlane's lighter Trek inspired show, The Orville, should be a good antidote as well.

Season 4 of Black Mirror should hopefully be coming out later this year, although there's no official release date just yet. It's often over a year's wait between seasons, so we'll see.
